Fire Safety Week: Ideas, Printables and Plans

October 6-10th is National Fire Safety and Fire Prevention Week.  Here are some ways to incorporate these important lessons into your week.


It's important to me to help my little ones not freak out and get all anxious when talking about fire.  My 6 year old, panics if when I accidentally set the smoke detector off from something smoking in the oven.  Hopefully, through this week of schooling at home we can learn, have fun, and stay safe always!

Science Experiments:

Here's a kid-friendly science experiment, designed by Confessions of a Homeschooler, to show that fire needs fuel, heat, and air to stay lit. 

Free Printables and Lesson Plans

Teaching in High Heels has a free printable mini-reader that comes with word wall vocabulary cards.

The store "One Sharp Bunch" at TPT has this free sight word game that includes Dolch words thru grade 2.

 Comprehension Questions that go along with a YouTube video are available for free from the TPT store called "Promoting Success".  The video is linked in her product, very cool!

Here are 3 cute cut and paste labeling activities from "Grow Little Kinder Garden".

 The Ultimate Free Resource for Fire Safety Week comes from the National Fire Prevention Council and their mascot, Sparky.  You can download free apps for both Apple and Android as well as read free e-books, watch kid friendly videos,  and there are also lots of printable activities.

 

Morning Work Freebies for October (K-3)

During the month of October I will be participating in the  31 Days of Writing project and beginning this brand new blog!  I will be posting free stuff for teachers; everything from free resources, to discounts, and freebies just for being a teacher!  Items will vary, of course, but I think most will include public school, private school and home school teachers.  

Here's the best FREE resources I've found for morning work this month.  We have quite a few activity days planned for October so for 1st grade I'm shooting for 18 normal days of teaching.  Please do not worry and think that every single day has to be filled with reading and learning on a schedule.  Public schools nor Home schools simply do not operate that way.  There are always days of testing, substitutes, assemblies, and field trips.

Kindergarten Morning Work:

Up first we have a 5 day sample kit for the little ones.  Includes letter tracing, beginning sounds, and color words.

1st grade Morning Work:

This is a PowerPoint that includes daily math and reading questions, as well as calendar questions.  You can do this on your projector, iPad, or at the computer screen.
